How to Prepare for the GRE for Free

When it comes to your GRE preparation, there are a lot of paid courses out there that will promise you the world in exchange for your hard earned cash. But the prices can be quite high and it’s not always feasible for everybody. Luckily, there are a range of free GRE prep resources out there that you can use without breaking the bank.

In this article, we’re going to share some of the best free GRE prep resources we’ve found, and we hope they can be of value to you!

Free Practice Tests

Almost every course provider makes some practice tests available for free to act as a lead generator for their courses. The good news is that you can leverage all those free practice tests to your advantage, learning as much as you can through doing them seriously. Some of the best ones we’ve found come from ETS, CrunchPrep, Kaplan, and Princeton Review. By working through these under strict exam conditions, you can derive a lot of benefit without having to pay a cent.

GRE Free Trials

In the same vein as above, some of the course providers give really generous free trials for their platforms that are designed to convert you into a paying customer. However, if you’re resourceful and dedicated, you can use those free trials and soak up as much as possible before your time runs out. This is a great way to experience the way these platforms work and learn about things like exam technique and thought processes – that will stand you in good stead for taking the real thing. Our personal favourites here include Magoosh GRE Prep, Princeton Review, and the Economist GRE Prep. Each one has a 7-day free trial where you can access a large portion of study materials. Make the most of it.

Crowdsourced Flashcards

You don’t have to re-invent the wheel here, thousands of students before you have created their own study materials and then shared them with the world. If you’re willing to do some digging, you can find some amazing flashcards that have been created for GRE prep and you can utilize them yourself. Try searching through the public databases on Quizlet or Anki and you’ll be surprised at the hidden gems you can find.

Video Tutorials

The leading open source educational tool in the world, Khan Academy, has some amazing value for GRE prep if you know the right places to look. The site is filled with really great video tutorials on key concepts that you can dig into and explore as needed. Here is a great summary of the different topics that can be helpful on the Khan Academy – use these wonderful resources to your advantage!

Those are just a few of the great free resources out there for your GRE prep. There is a lot more where that came from and if you are willing to dig around a bit, you can find a fantastic array of resources and learning materials that you don’t have to pay for.

We hope that this provided some value and that you leverage these resources to get that GRE result that you’re dreaming of.

Good luck!
