Wonderlic-style Cognitive Ability Practice Test

Unofficial. Not affiliated with or endorsed by Wonderlic. Original questions. Not a predictor of any real result.

About this practice set

Employers who use Wonderlic Select send three sections: cognitive ability, motivation and personality. Only the cognitive section has right or wrong answers, and only that section is timed. Wonderlic says it has 50 questions in 12 minutes, and that test takers are not expected to finish all of them (Wonderlic candidate FAQ, from the owner, read October 17, 2026). The full assessment takes an average of about 35 minutes, per the FAQ.

Wonderlic’s instructions in its sample assessment say a calculator is not allowed, that you should give as many correct answers as you can, and that guessing is not likely to improve your score (sample assessment, from the owner, read October 17, 2026). Criteria’s CCAT instructions say the opposite: make an educated guess and move on.

At 12 minutes for 50 questions, you have about 14 seconds a question (Prepti’s arithmetic, not a Wonderlic figure). Our Timed mode is gentler: it draws 20 questions at a time from our bank of 48 original questions and gives you 6 minutes, about 18 seconds a question (Prepti’s arithmetic). Many people will not finish all 20, and that is expected. Learn mode has no clock and gives a short explanation after each question.

This set covers word meaning, simple arithmetic, logic and shapes or patterns, and your results show a raw count for each. The real cognitive section is longer and faster, so see our Wonderlic test prep guide for what Wonderlic says. Your invitation is the final word.

Choose a mode

Timed (20 questions, 6 minutes). The clock starts when you press Start. Move on if a question takes too long. You can go back, skip and change answers until time runs out or you finish. When time ends, your answers so far are kept and you go straight to your results. No calculator is needed. Wonderlic says a calculator is not allowed on the real cognitive section, so try these without one.

Learn (untimed). Same 20 questions with no clock. Press Check answer on any question to see whether you were right and a short explanation of the method. Then press Next. Use this mode to find out why an answer works.

Practice mode

You can go back before finishing. No auto-advance. Practice progress and your last result are saved on this browser only, for up to 30 days. Once you have saved progress, a Clear practice data button removes them.

Your results

You will see how many you answered correctly, how many you skipped and how long you took. You will also see raw counts for each type of question. There is no pass or fail. This is practice, not a prediction. You can review every question with its explanation, and retry with a different set of 20.

Your data

Your progress and your last result are saved only in your browser, on this device, for 30 days. After that they expire. You can clear them with the Clear practice data button, which appears once you have saved progress. We do not ask for an email address.

FAQ

Is this the real Wonderlic test?

No. It is unofficial, written by Prepti and not affiliated with Wonderlic. The questions are original.

Will it predict my real score?

No. Wonderlic says there is no universal good or average score for Wonderlic Select. A practice set cannot tell you how you will do on a real one.

Can I try again?

Yes. Each attempt draws a different set of 20 questions from our bank, so a retry will not be identical.

How are the questions chosen?

Each set has a fixed mix: 6 word questions, 6 number questions, 4 logic questions and 4 shape or pattern questions, ordered from easier to harder.

Do you save my data?

Only in your own browser, for 30 days. See Your data above.

What should I do next?

Read the Wonderlic test prep guide, or try our guides to numerical and verbal reasoning tests.

Untimed sample questions

These work without JavaScript. Open a question to see the answer and explanation. They are not part of the timed set, and nothing here is scored.

Sample 1: Which word does NOT belong with the others?
  1. copper
  2. iron
  3. silver
  4. granite

Answer: D. Copper, iron and silver are metals. Granite is a rock.

Sample 2: A square garden has an area of 169 square meters. How long is each side?
  1. 13 meters
  2. 26 meters
  3. 52 meters
  4. 84.5 meters

Answer: A. The side is the square root of 169, which is 13 meters. 26 is double, 52 is the distance around (4 x 13), 84.5 is half the area.

Sample 3: What comes next in the series: B, E, H, K, ?
  1. M
  2. O
  3. N
  4. P

Answer: C. Each letter is 3 places after the one before: B, E, H, K, so the next is N. O would be 4 places after K.

Sample 4: You are facing north. You turn 90 degrees to your right, then 90 degrees to your right again, then 90 degrees to your left. Which direction are you facing now?
  1. west
  2. east
  3. north
  4. south

Answer: B. Facing north, a right turn points you east, a second right turn points you south, and a left turn from south points you east. Net: one right turn.
