Korn Ferry test (Talent Q): what it measures and how to prepare

By Prepti Team. Last checked: 16 October 2026. We are not affiliated with Korn Ferry. “Korn Ferry assessment” can mean several different tests. This page follows Korn Ferry's own candidate site for its Talent Q assessments (Korn Ferry candidate site). Korn Ferry's leadership assessments are a separate family, and we do not describe them here because we did not find an official candidate description. Your invitation is the final word on which tests you were sent. See how we compare and check.

Quick answer

Korn Ferry's Talent Q assessments are two kinds of test, and they work differently:

  • Ability tests (Elements and Aspects Ability) are timed and have right answers. Korn Ferry has free official practice tests for them.
  • Personality questionnaires (Dimensions, Drives and Aspects Styles) have no time limit. Honest answering is the preparation.

What Korn Ferry says about the tests

  • Korn Ferry's FAQ says the assessments are used by employers to measure personality, ability, competency and motivation at work (Korn Ferry FAQ).
  • Korn Ferry describes its practice abilities as: checking (compare information in two tables and say whether it is the same), numerical (make decisions from sets of figures), verbal (interpret written business information and make decisions from scenarios) and logical (find the symbol that completes a sequence) (Korn Ferry candidate guide, checked 16 October 2026).
  • Korn Ferry says the ability tests are timed because they measure how well you analyse information and extract the correct answer within a set period. It says the time per question comes from research, and that although challenging, it is possible to respond in the time (Korn Ferry FAQ).

Format and timing

Time limits apply only to the ability tests, and each question within them is individually timed (Korn Ferry FAQ, checked 16 October 2026).

Practical points from Korn Ferry's FAQ:

  • Device: Korn Ferry recommends a PC or laptop for the ability tests. Elements (especially Numerical) uses drop-downs that look different on tablets and may put users at a disadvantage. Personality questionnaires work on mobile devices.
  • Elements Numerical: you will also need a calculator, paper and a pen or pencil.
  • Interruptions: if you lose connection during an ability test, you can log back in once and continue where you stopped. A second loss means contacting the administrator. For the untimed personality questionnaires, you can log back in and carry on from where you were.
  • When time runs out: if you have selected an answer but not clicked submit, the system submits it for you.
  • Adaptive tests and verification: Korn Ferry says its ability tests are adaptive, so you are likely to get a unique combination of questions. It also says employers can follow up a remote test with a supervised verification test and compare the results. Whether your employer does this is its choice.
  • Adjustments: Korn Ferry says special requirements are considered case by case. Examples it gives include increased test times, a larger on-screen font, or a reader or scribe. Contact the administrator named in your invitation. See assessment accommodations.
  • Languages: available in over 45 languages. The employer may preset yours.
  • Practice versus live: the practice account shows red text in the top left corner. Log out of practice before you start the live assessment.
  • Retakes: depend on the employer. See retaking an employer assessment.

Free official practice (ability tests)

Korn Ferry has practice assessments for its timed ability tests: Elements Verbal, Elements Numerical, Elements Logical and Aspects Ability Checking (Korn Ferry FAQ; the four practice types are also listed in the Korn Ferry candidate guide). The FAQ says they are to become familiar with the format and layout, not to improve knowledge. There is one practice test for each type, and you can retake it as often as you like. Korn Ferry says it does not provide the answers to any questions in its assessments.

These are the official practice tests. We do not publish look-alike questions.

How to prepare for the ability tests

  1. Check your invitation for which tests you have. The time limits above differ.
  2. Take Korn Ferry's practice test for each type you may face. Note which type feels slowest.
  3. For Elements Numerical, have a calculator, paper and pen ready.
  4. Use a PC or laptop, close other applications and browsers, and make sure you will not be disturbed. Korn Ferry says to complete each test in one sitting.
  5. Rest the night before. See assessment test anxiety.

What the personality questionnaires measure

Korn Ferry's FAQ names the questionnaires (Dimensions, Drives and Aspects Styles) and their typical lengths. We did not find a public list of their scales on the candidate pages we checked, so we do not describe them. Think of any personality scale as a spectrum, not a score you win or lose.

How to answer the personality questionnaires honestly

This is our advice, not Korn Ferry's.

  • Answer as you really behave at work, not as you think the employer wants. Many personality tests compare answers across items. That is general knowledge about such tests, not a statement about this one.
  • Do not overthink. Your first honest instinct is usually better than second-guessing.
  • Think of typical work behaviour, not your best day or your worst day.
  • If a statement fits you in some settings and not others, pick the setting of the role you are applying for, and be ready to explain your choice in an interview.
  • Know your strengths and weak spots. Interviews may follow up on the results.
  • Set yourself up. Quiet room, stable connection, and time for the whole session. See the online proctored assessment checklist and assessment accommodations.
  • Do not try to build a “perfect profile”. Matching an imagined ideal can backfire if the role or the interview does not fit that profile. We cannot promise any result either way.

Honest limits: we do not know your employer's cut-offs, and nobody outside the employer does. Korn Ferry says it sets no pass or fail marks but an employer may have a benchmark. If the assessment seems unfair or inaccessible to you, you can ask about adjustments. This is not legal advice. For the wider picture, see personality assessments: can you prepare?
