Saville Assessment test: Swift and Wave, and how to prepare

Quick answer

Saville sends two kinds of assessment, and they work differently. Check your invitation to see which you have.

  • Swift aptitude tests are timed reasoning tests (verbal, numerical, diagrammatic, abstract and others) with right answers. Saville offers free practice tests.
  • Wave questionnaires are Saville's behavioural questionnaires. Questionnaires about how you work have no answer key, so honest answering is the preparation.

Processes differ by country and role. Check your invite.

How the Saville process works

Saville's candidate page lists four steps: find your invitation email, use your personal link (there is no general login page), prepare and practise inside your platform, then take your assessment. Inside the platform you can check technical requirements, see how long each part takes and try practice questions matched to your assessments (Saville candidates, checked 16 October 2026). Once you finish, the organisation that invited you will be in touch about the next stage.

Saville's candidate FAQ also says: assessments are optimized for any device, so you can use a phone, tablet, laptop or desktop, and the technical requirements are in your platform; retakes are decided by the organisation that invited you; adjustments are requested from that organisation before you start; and assessments are available in 40+ languages (Saville candidates, checked 16 October 2026).

Swift aptitude tests

Saville's current employer page names two combined assessments, Aptitude (verbal, numerical and diagrammatic reasoning) and Executive Aptitude (for senior and leadership appointments), plus single verbal, numerical and abstract reasoning tests. It says each candidate faces the same structure, with the same number of items at the same difficulty levels, drawn from a randomized bank (Saville cognitive ability assessment, checked 16 October 2026). Your employer picks the test. Saville's practice-tests page also lists other Swift tests, such as Analysis, Comprehension, Technical and Apprentice ranges.

Saville no longer shows range timings on the public pages we checked, so we state none. Your platform shows how long each part takes.

  • Retakes depend on the employer. See retaking an employer assessment.
  • Saville's employer page says randomized item banks and response-pattern checks help protect test integrity, and that remotely supervised sessions are an add-on for employers. Whether yours uses supervision is your employer's choice. See the online proctored assessment checklist.

Free official practice for Swift

Saville offers online timed practice tests, with onscreen feedback for each question. It says they are to familiarise you with the format and with working to strict time limits, and that the difficulty of the example questions does not necessarily represent the difficulty of the real test (Saville practice tests, checked 16 October 2026). The page lists practice tests for the Analysis, Comprehension and Technical ranges, Swift Apprentice, Swift Global, Swift Executive and Workplace English, and single tests such as verbal, numerical, diagrammatic and abstract reasoning, error checking, spatial and mechanical. You can repeat a practice test as many times as you like, per Saville. We do not publish look-alike questions for these tests.

How to prepare for Swift

  1. Check your invitation for the test. The time and mix differ.
  2. Do Saville's free practice test that matches it, under the time limit.
  3. Review any question you got wrong, then repeat. For help with each type, see numerical reasoning tests explained and verbal reasoning tests explained.
  4. Check your device and connection first. Sleep and a quiet room matter.

Wave questionnaires

Saville's public pages no longer include a Wave preparation page, so we do not describe Wave's format, timings or question types. Check your invitation and the practice questions inside your platform. Saville's candidate page says practice questions are matched to the assessments you are taking (Saville candidates, checked 16 October 2026).

How to answer a work-style questionnaire honestly

This is our advice, not Saville's.

  • Answer as you really behave at work, not as you think the employer wants. Many personality tests compare answers across items. That is general knowledge about such tests, not a statement about Wave.
  • Do not overthink. Think of typical work behaviour, not your best day or worst day.
  • If a statement fits you in some settings and not others, pick the setting of the role you are applying for, and be ready to explain it in an interview. Know your strengths and weak spots, because interviews may follow up on the results.
  • Complete it when alert and free from interruptions. If you have special requirements, contact the organisation that invited you before you start. See assessment accommodations.
  • Nerves are normal. See assessment test anxiety.
  • Do not try to build a “perfect profile”. Matching an imagined ideal can backfire if the role or the interview does not fit that profile. We cannot promise any result either way.

Honest limits: we do not know your employer's cut-offs, and nobody outside the employer does. If the assessment seems unfair or inaccessible to you, you can ask about adjustments. This is not legal advice. For the wider picture, see personality assessments: can you prepare?
